YOU MAY BE WONDERING WHAT YOU MIGHT EXPECT DURING A HYPNOTHERAPY SESSION
Hypnosis certainly has a fair amount of mystery surrounding it. In no small part due to entertainment and media misinformation. One of the most important jobs I have as a hypnotherapist is taking the mystery out of hypnosis for my clients, prospective clients and the general public.
What happens during each individual session is specific to the client. It isn’t tailored to what I want or need. It is made to what the clients needs are.
At the same time, the structure of the session doesn’t change.
“Before We Begin” — The Most Important Part
Whether this is an in person session or being done by phone or video chat, once we both get situated and comfortable, the first words out of my mouth are going to be, “Before we begin, I’m going to ask you a few questions and explain how things are going to work as well as answer any questions you have for me.”
Here is a big secret of hypnotherapy: you the client are the one who is in control. As a hypnotherapist, my role is to serve as your tour guide.
You decide where we go.
My job is just to get you there.
The conversation we have at the very beginning of the session is where my skills get put to the test. I have to be an excellent observer, ask great questions, think on my feet and be able to explain everything to you in an easy to understand way with as little jargon as possible.
Getting and sharing the right information at the start is what determines everything that happens for the rest of the session.
Towards the end of this conversation, I’ll usually do some demonstrations to show how the subconscious mind works. These demonstrations are also helpful to me in that they let me know what approach to take during the next part of the session: the induction.

THE INDUCTION
Here is where the fun begins.
The induction is the process where the client is led into that very relaxed high learning state known as hypnosis.
The entire time during the induction and while you are in that very relaxed state you are going to hear everything and be aware of everything that is taking place.
You will find that being hypnotized is an extremely relaxing and pleasurable experience.
There are a number of methods I use to for an induction. Which one is used all depends on feedback given by the client that. There are different ways that people learn and process information. During the first part of our session, one of the things I am doing is trying to understand what kind of stimuli and language is best for me to use with you.
Some inductions are quite quick. Others may take 15 or 20 minutes. Once again, everything in the session is driven by the needs of the client.
Once the initial induction is complete, I use some short tests to determine how deep the client is. In many cases I will use some techniques that allow the client to enter a deeper level of trance if needed (deeper is not always better).
And the pocket watch is just for show.

THE THERAPY
This is where the “change work” takes place. It may be where we go through the process needed to help you with pain management, weight release, becoming a non-smoker, overcoming fear of public speaking or something else.
The therapy that is done is only what you have said at the beginning of the session that you want done. You will not come in seeking to improve your job performance and walk out with the uncontrollable urge to go on a diet.
The specific approach to the change work that I do is once again 100% client driven. What your needs are determine what approach I take.
Keep in mind, I’m just your tour guide as you explore your subconscious mind.
In most cases, with your permission, I provide a post hypnotic suggestion (PHS) that is a trigger to give you a tool for your use once you have left.
Quite frequently, these triggers given to allow clients to increase their level of relaxation or confidence.

TRANSITION TO WAKEFUL AWARENESS
The final portion of the session is to simply bring you out of your trance. This is a gentle, orderly process. It is not done in any hurry. I am paying close attention to you as you are coming out of the trance to see that you are coming out and if you need any additional help during this process.
Because hypnosis is so relaxing and enjoyable, many clients want to stay right there.
When you are wide awake, I’m there to welcome you back, check in with you and answer any questions you have.
For me, one of the most exciting and beautiful aspects of hypnotherapy is just how quickly positive change can be manifested in people’s lives through this tool.
Unlike many therapeutic approaches (some of which take years), in many cases, one session of hypnosis is all that is needed to address a specific issue.

Janine is a Clinical Hypnotherapist, Nutritional Therapist and life change worker covering Northumberland and Newcastle Upon Tyne.

I have worked for many years with individuals and couples with varying lifestyle needs and from all walks of life, helping them achieve their goals, improve relationships and enrich their lives in a none judgemental and empathetic way.

Throughout these years, I have striven to constantly update my professional training, as well as my own personal growth; this combined with the experience I have gained, has all allowed me to develop my own individual style and I have found this to be very effective in helping clients to facilitate long-lasting and meaningful changes.

There is no such thing as a magic pill that you can take and then wake up next day as a different person. However, it is possible to re-awaken previously dormant aspects that we can use to enrich and enhance your life now. You must be prepared to want to change in the completely relaxed and supportive environment I provide.

As people, we are not one size fits all, our problems cannot be put into set boxes and there are often complex reasons, individual to you, that impact on your rationale, reasoning and adaptation to your life. For this reason, the techniques and change work I offer are not uniform but, rather, specifically adapted for you after our initial consultation together.

I therefore offer an initial free 30 minute phone consultation to get to know each other and discuss how you would like to change.

I will be working with you to promote a healthier and happier life, allowing you to be free of all that holds you back. It often it is not just what happens in our lives that cause us problems, but how we view and react to them based on past negative emotions.

My bespoke sessions can include Hypnotherapy, Neuro Linguistic Programming , Emotional FreedomTechnique, Eye Movement Integration, Solution-Focused Therapy, Nutritional Therapy and more, all depending on your needs. I work from home in the beautiful rural setting of Allenheads in Northumberland.

For effective treatment you have to be honest about what you are you prepared to do.

Ask yourself: “How much do I want to change?”

How much better would my life be if I was able to overcome all that was stopping me living my life to the full ?

Are my past negative memories stopping my future moving in a more positive and productive way ?

Do I genuinely feel that the time to change is now ?

If you wish to be free of old behaviours, are ready to try something a little different and are fully prepared to commit to doing the work needed to change, then I would love to hear from you.

PHOBIAS

A Fear or a Phobia ?
When fears are irrational and disabling, they are called phobias.

Fear is a normal and healthy part of life. It plays an important role in keeping us from entering harmful situations and helping us decide when to get out of situations that are not necessarily the best.

Under normal circumstances, fear can be managed through reason and logic. It does not take over our lives or cause us to become irrational.

Phobias, however, twist the normal fear response into something that is difficult or impossible to control. a type of anxiety disorder, usually defined as a persistent fear of an object or situation in which the sufferer commits to great lengths in avoiding despite the fear, typically disproportional to the actual danger posed, often being recognised as irrational.

The most common phobias are spiders, snakes and heights. Although there are many more suffered by many people of all ages.

There are different ways to help change the way you may think and feel and so change how you respond and react to your Fears or Phobias. These changes can often be made in one or two sessions, so why continue to live with them ….

OVERCOMIMG STRESS, ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION

Studies vary but show about 1 in 6 people can show sypmtoms of depression at some point during their lives.

Until now, drugs have been the most often used treatment of depression. Fortunately, it is changing now, because a lot of studies show that when used alongside Hypnotherapy and NLP there can be far better and much faster results.
I believe that, although Antidepressants can be an effective way of “taking the edge off” depressive episodes, given alone they do not address the real issues, the social aspects also need to be addressed.

Most people with Depression share common psychological factors like coping and relationship styles, a tendency towards pessimism, sometimes a strong need for control, and a lot of anxiety about rejection, potential conflict, loss, criticism and even that they are a burden.

In my experience, if these issues are addressed, the Depression usually disappears.
If you have had life changing situations, grief, confidence issues, a strong leaning towards internally focusing, a tendency for going over the past, or have become isolated, your risk profile for depression mounts. In fact, if you have consistent bouts of depression, and have done over a number of years, my experience is that you will respond well to my treatment.

REPETITIVE CYCLES OF DESTRUCTIVE BEHAVIOUR

Do you have difficulty moderating some behaviours?

Cognitive hypnotherapy has been successfully treating addictive behaviour for some time now in all it’s many guises, and together with neuro linguistic programming (NLP), can provide the tools for you to be able to put your reliance on artificial substances in your past.

CAREER TRANSITION, MIDLIFE AND TRANSITIONAL PERIODS

There are many times in our life when we can feel stuck in a rut, feel the need to make a change but for many different reasons, all unique, we put off taking that first step. Perhaps you want to change career, have a life long goal you have never done anything about
or simply want to improve your life.

I can help you look at your goals, life, needs in a different way leaving you in a better place to make those decisions that are right for you.

PUBLIC SPEAKING

Are you dealing with nerves whenever you are going to speak at a a public speaking event?
Do you struggle remembering your stories and knowledge whenever you speak?
Do you experience tremendous amounts of pain or anxiety before you speak?
Public speaking is no easy task to complete.

Becoming a famous public speaker must be confusing and very hard for those who aren’t yet used to the feelings of being on the stage and talking. The truth is that giving a lecture and giving a lot of good speeches can really be tough.
If you are looking for a real good way to help you actually achieve plenty of success as a public speaker and remove all those unnecessary nerves, you really could make huge changes through hypnotherapy.

There are many people who struggle in terms of actually removing nerves, feeling more calm, and overcoming the anxious thoughts that causes them to make mistakes.
Through hypnotherapy, you can remove all kinds of anxiety with no problem.
You will become more proficient in your work and mind when speaking out in public. After just a couple of hypnotherapist sessions, you will find that you can become more knowledgeable in terms of relaxing yourself in the long run.

POST TRAUMATIC STRESS

Trauma happens when we find ourselves in any situation in life where we perceive ourselves to be unable to manage that situation. For many people, therapy is an effective way of coping with this type of stress.
We all have different perceptions, different strengths, different resources, so a traumatic event to one person might possibly seem conceivably trivial to another, and even though a person is comfortable in perhaps potentially dangerous situations, they may come undone in an ostensibly less stressful situation.
And of course at different times in our lives when our defences are less strong, we may find ourselves distressed more easily.

For example:
Two people witnessing the same road traffic accident might be affected differently.
One person may feel losing a job, or even having to speak in front of a small group debilitating.
Military personnel, who might have witnessed years of the atrocities of war, might crumble at the sight of a spider or feel that the non-inclusion of a celebratory event was too much.
Trauma doesn’t have to be something outrageous. And what becomes a traumatic experience for one person, won’t necessarily become a traumatic experience for another.
Our subconscious minds, being very protective, can go into “alarm” (stress) when perceiving the possibility of a recurrence of the traumatic event.

The subconscious mind will run patterns around events, almost “waiting” for the event to happen, that way we can “keep on edge” or “keep our guard up”, which is fantastic if the threat is dangerous, if it helps us to be more cautious crossing the road for example, but when the threat is possibly unfounded, when it makes everyday life difficult then the pattern can be safely changed

Trauma resolution can assist many people in dealing with a wide range of traumatic events, reducing stress and allowing you to move on in life.
Hypnotherapy can help greatly with changing the subconscious negative patterns that may be holding you in fear.

SELF ESTEEM, BODY IMAGE, SELF ACCEPTANCE, SEXUAL iIDENTITY,
LOW SELF ESTEEM OR TO SAY IT BETTER, REBUILD YOUR SELF ESTEEM

Everyone holds opinions about the type of person that they are.

These opinions are core of self-esteem and they affect how you feel about yourself and how you value yourself.
Self-esteem is not static and fixed; your beliefs about yourself can change throughout your life as a result of circumstance and experience.

Most of us are born with a great deal of self esteem, as babies we think that we are okay.

If you have high self-esteem, you will generally see yourself in a positive light.
You might find that life events such as losing your job, ending a relationship or being bereaved give your confidence a huge knock, but high self-esteem can act as a buffer to absorb these knocks and help you bounce back.
Your beliefs make the difference between high and low self-esteem. It is important to realise that these are only opinions, they are not facts. They can be biased or inaccurate, and there are steps you can take to change them.

While low self-esteem alone is not a recognised mental health problem, it will have an effect on your mental health.
Holding negative beliefs about yourself lowers your resilience and ability to cope with the stresses of life.

This can place you at a higher risk of developing mental health problems such as eating disorders, depression or social phobia, which are closely related to your mood and self-belief.

If you are struggling with any sexual identity problems these can be made easier by improving your self acceptance and self esteem.

And this is also where treatment with Hypnotherapy, hypnosis and NLP is extremely useful and successful.

WEIGHT CONTROL

The aim of therapy for weight-loss is to make you feel confident about your body, change any negative thoughts about eating and help you lose weight responsibly without impacting your emotional well-being.

It might be hard to imagine a world where you’d happily turn down your favourite food for something healthier, but with certain weight-loss therapy techniques it may be possible to change your thinking patterns and gain control over cravings in a way that doesn’t depress you.

Therapy can help also maintain or gain weight for those who struggle in other ways with weight control and body image.

As a Nutritional Therapist I can support your weight loss journey in a safe and effective way.
