Mike and Janine are also wonderful hosts and this is recommended, whether you’re cycling the C2C, taking part in Janine’s birthing school (as we were) or holistic therapy, or just looking for a quiet, luxury B and B.

* This is an absolutely lovely B&B! My father and I stayed here on our last night if the Coast to Coast bike ride. Our bikes were out away safely and we were welcomed warmly by Mike and Janine! Our room was lovely and the beds were extremely comfortable! I’m the morning we had a wonderful breakfast, including home made jam… Trip advisor five stars ⭐️

* Greeted with a warm welcome and a cup of coffee after a long day in the saddle was just what the doctor ordered. The B&B is in a great spot for those doing the 3 day C2C bike ride as it leaves a relatively relaxed third day. the rooms were really comfy, the breakfast was superb. Trip advisor five stars ⭐️

The cottage was spotless, it was equipped with everything we needed. The views were breathtaking, perfect location for those who like walking. Owners very friendly and helpful. We were welcomed with home made scones, raspberry jam and bread ( the best we’ve ever had). We were allowed to take 2 dogs with us (even if the advertised allowance is 1). Property was equipped with towels and beds for dogs. Overall impression – everything exceeded our expectations. We are hoping to come back to the cottage some time this year. Sykes cottage holiday

We rented the cottage for a week at the end of July. Our party consisted of three adults, two children and a Jack Russell. We had a fabulous time. Mike and Janine made us feel very welcome and the cottage was lovely, clean, cosy but spacious. It was great because we felt that we could ask for any help or advice on where to visit, but our hosts were not intrusive in any way. The cottage had all of the amenities that we could have asked for, a well equipped kitchen, games for the children and interesting books for the adults. The cottage was just a five minute walk away from the pub and cafe in the village. I would recommend this to anyone wanting a peaceful place to stay, with lots to do on the doorstep. We would love to return again.

Mike & Janine are perfect host’s. On arrival after a long cycle ride we were offered tea and biscuits and shown to our room which was very nice. Comfy bed and good shower. We also had a sitting room to ourselves which was great once the fire was lit and roaring away. Breakfast the next morning was perfect looking out over the hills.

This has to be one of the best B&Bs in the country. Location – superb. Facilities – superb. Hosts – superb. Distance to pub – superb. Beds – better than superb. And the breakfast, well it lasted us to the coast and back to Newcastle, that is how good it was.

Stayed overnight during the C2C and it was absolutely fantastic. The most welcoming host’s we could have asked for and everything else was just a bonus. The house was lovely, living room area with a fire place, dining area with plenty of room and 3 bedrooms, all of which were beautifully looked after. Our beds even had electric blankets, something I’d never seen in a hotel/B&B before, not that we needed them as the fire let off enough heat to keep the whole building nice and cosy! Breakfast in the morning was fantastic and had everything you could have wished for. Again thanks for the hospitality, amazing people and amazing place.

*Hot Stone Massage and Facial is absolutely fantastic. As a customer you feel really looked after and receive exceptionally good service. The treatment room is relaxing and beautifully done. I am a person who finds it hard to relax, but the therapist has more than made sure that I am relaxed and feeling pampered after my treatment. She explains all the products that she uses (all organic)and ensures you feel comfortable. I often go to expensive spas and salons but my treatments at Blacketts Retreat have far exceeded these places. I would highly recommend this to anyone. 5 star! (Free Index review)
